Yahoo has announced a new music service at a substantial discount from similar offerings. SFGate reports:
Richard Wolpert, RealNetworks' chief strategy officer, said he expected rival Yahoo to raise its rates, calling the introductory price "a marketing gimmick'' to make up for its late entry into the online music market.
Now, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black... See, Real faced the same reality and tried a similar gimmick back in 2004, offering songs at 49¢ for several months, which got a lot of press but didn't substantially move the revenue needle.
