During my first (and probably few) snow days of the 2009 season, I took along a Garmin eTrex GPS unit. Now I've got some very interesting data to look at, giving me a new perspective on one of my favorite sports.
On day 1, I didn't turn the unit on until late in the afternoon, whereas on day 2, I captured the entire day. Here is the overall waypoint map:
As you may recognize, I went to Northstar, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe.
Here is the elevation map:
From this, I get some interesting stats:
- Highest elevation: 8621 ft
- Longest run: 2.9 miles
- Deepest vertical drop: 2299 ft
- Total number of runs: 13
- Total distance travelled: 35.73 miles
- Average lift speed: 10 mph
- Average speed on runs: 20 mph
- Peak speed on runs: 40 mph
