Appcasting
Fraser Speirs: “Appcasting is the practice of using the ‘enclosure’ feature of RSS 2.0 feeds to deliver updates and release notes for new software applications.”
Seems like a neat idea, but would every developer need to implement their own update feed code? Perhaps this is an opportunity for an open-source library (or a system-level API)...
Update: reading the entire post by Frasier, he's not talking about each app updating themselves via an RSS feed, just leveraging the Enclosure features of aggregators like NNW to delivery updates. I guess I had a more radical solution in mind, wherein each app could internally subscribe to updates, and do the right thing.
