So after a week of deciding and after watching the price drop $200, I went down to Sharper Image in SF and bought a Sanyo VPC-C5BL, better known as the Sanyo C5.

Some initial thoughts:
- The box includes just about every accessory available, which is very nice!
- The box also included a 512K SD card (woot!) I thought I’d have to plunk down extra for that.
- it really is a small camera… almost too small?
- pictures look great, a bit warmer than my old Coolpix 2500
- I’m undecided on the video quality
Here’s a comparison of image quality between the Sanyo C5 and the Coolpix 2500:
As you can imagine, going to 2M to 5M shows much more detail and less artifacts. Both pictures showed very similar color.
Interestingly, inside shots showed a wider difference in color tint. The Coolpix shows cooler colors, while the Sanyo C5 shows a warmer. To my own eye, the Sanyo is closer to reality, but it might be a bit too warm. And of course, the detail is far greter on the Sanyo...
